What a great week in North Wilkesboro! It really was an awesome week. We had a lot of good meetings. The best one was when Elder Oaks visited on Saturday! It was such a wonderful experience. We got to meet together as a whole mission in Charlotte which never happens. I got a front row seat to listen to an Apostle speak. We each got to take a picture with him by zone and shake his hand afterward. I was the first sister missionary to shake Elder Oaks hand! It was amazing. He looked right in my eyes and told me it was nice to meet me. He was as spry as could be. When we all were done taking pictures and were seated back in the chapel he entered and we all stood as he walked to the front. We sang Called to Serve as an entire mission. The spirit was so strong and it made me so happy to be a missionary! Sis. and Pres. Thomas each spoke along with Elder Gay from the Seventy. Then Elder Oaks spoke to us. He talked on revelation/inspiration and how we each get and understand it. He allowed missionaries to stand and share what they have learned about the subject since coming on a mission. Then he would add a comment to what they had to say. It was awesome. One of my favorite gospel topics too. One of my favorite things that he said is that we should pray all the time and then the Lord will give us what we need when we need it. It was great to see Sis. Flynn and Sis. Manuo and other Elders I've become friends with.
We had a couple of cool experiences this week. First off we went to go see a potential in an area. We tracted her street before we went to see her and got in with a younger couple. It was going well until the lady's brother showed up. He was obviously...antagonistic. Man I hate that! He totally ruined the spirit that was there. But, we did manage ok and he eventually was nice. Then we were able to make a return appointment with the lady. After that interesting event, we finally got to see Ruby who was the potential investigator. She and her friend Joy were coming out of her trailor. They said they had just been talking about religion and how they were searching for something more. Joy looked at me and said, "You're Mormon aren't you? You don't drink coffee right?" She then said she was trying to quit. She also said that she had been meeting with Jehovah's witnesses and knew that they didn't have it all. She said I want to meet with y'all! It was sooo cool.
Then we had an awesome lesson with a young man named Justin who we met tracting. He's 17. He was really interested in the Book of Mormon and was friends with one of the young women from the ward. They talked at school and he wanted to set up an appointment. We had dinner at the Cornia's home and taught Justin more about Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon. It was really great! We hope everything continues to go well. I love being a missionary and bring happiness to others. When you get discouraged and down I just remember how happy I feel when you see somebody light up from the warmth of the Gospel!
